Founded by Abel Cornejo, Active Arts is guided by more than 20 years of experience bringing arts, culture, and education to diverse communities across the United States.
Mr. Cornejo’s dynamic career spans higher education and professional theatre. He has taught at Florida International University, Broward College, Miami Dade College, and within the Broward County Public Schools system. His creative work includes collaborations with organizations such as Abrons Arts Center in New York, Florida Children’s Theatre, the Waterfront Playhouse, New Dramatists, and many other arts and education institutions.
He has trained extensively in physical theatre and performance, studying with leading programs including the School of Physical Theatre and the International School of Corporeal Mime in London, Dell’Arte International School in California, and the American School of Commedia dell’Arte in Philadelphia. He holds an MFA in Theatre from Brooklyn College and an MA from UC Santa Cruz.
